American Kenneth Bae, sentenced to prison in North Korea for 15 years

When North Korea announced it had sentenced imprisoned American tour operator Kenneth Bae to 15 years hard labor earlier this month, it gave no details about his crime other than he had attempted to “overthrow” the North Korean government.  But now North Korea has presented more details about Bae’s crime. They say he smuggled anti-government propaganda into the country, and preached the overthrow of the regime as part of a Christian missionary-backed plan called “Operation Jericho.”

The report from the Korean Central News Agency paints Bae, a devout Christian, as the leader of a plot to undermine the government,  according to a translation by NK News.  “Operation Jericho” was launched in 2006 by Youth With a Mission  (YWAM),  an international evangelical Christian organization Bae belonged to,  according to KCNA.  It consisted of mobilizing 250 of Bae’s “followers” to infiltrate an area of North Korea near the border and create what the government calls an “anti-government coalition.”  KCNA  claims they based their operation in a hotel.

Over 56,000 Bibles delivered to North Korea in 2012

“Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105. God opened new doors to deliver the Bibles as the year 2012 closed.

Bible delivery to North Korea was momentarily closed but they were delivered safely into the hands of souls hungry for the Word of God.

Confirmed: Two North Koreans killed for their faith

According to the ministry that serves persecuted Christians worldwide, one Christian was recently shot while he was on his way back to Bible training in China. The other died in one of North Korea’s notorious labor camps.

The first Christian had traveled to China several times before. He went there because people told him he could earn more money; but after working in China for six months he still hadn’t received any money, even though he found several jobs.

They escaped starvation in North Korea, then Jesus filled their souls

One by one her family members fell, either by starvation or at the hands of a brutal regime. In their arduous journey to freedom, they found a “filling” on levels they could not have imagined.

“We grew up as atheists,” says Jin Hye Jo, 24, now living in northern Virginia with her sister, Eun and her mother Han. They are the only known survivors of a family of eight people. Her grandmother died from starvation before her eyes, her last wish to eat one steamed potato.

Since the unexpected death of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il December 17th, and the succession to power of his third son, Kim Jong-un, the underground Christian church has faced increased persecution.

“Three weeks ago seven underground churches got exposed,” says Thomas Kim, executive director of Cornerstone Ministries, which is actively involved in serving the church inNorth Korea. “It’s been very difficult for the last month and I think it’s going to continue,” he says.  Continue reading

            She entered Kaechon Prison a loyal communist, but lost her faith in the godless ideology of North Korea under horrifying conditions, then found faith in Christ after her release and a daring escape to freedom in South Korea.

            “I saw something so unimaginable and so terrible that I wanted to let the world know,” says Soon Ok Lee, one of the rare human beings to survive and offer an eyewitness account of conditions inside North Korea’s political prisons.  Lee has testified before the U.S. Congress and published a book about her experiences, “Eyes of the Tailless Animals, Prison Memoirs of a North Korean Woman (Living Sacrifice Book Co.).
