Doctors offer free services to the poor, proclaim the Gospel, amid Muslim-Christian tensions

Since 2001 violent clashes between Muslims and Christians in Jos, Nigeria have scarred and further segregated two disparate population groups. But that hasn’t stopped one Christian doctor and his wife from bringing Jesus’ healing touch to the poorest of the poor – whether Christian or Muslim.

Chris Isichei came to Christ in his last year of high school after his sister invited him to a screening of a Christian film about the prodigal son. As he stood outdoors in the field where the projector and screen were set up, he felt God impress upon his heart, “This is your life.”

More than 100 Christians Killed in Nigeria

A rash of attacks by armed Muslim extremists on villages in Nigeria’s Plateau state in the past month have left more than 100 Christians dead, including the elimination of entire families, sources said.

In a guerilla-type “hit and run” attack on the Christian community of Vwang Kogot, Muslim attackers at about 8 p.m. on Sept. 9 killed 14 Christians, including a pregnant woman. Survivors of the attack told Compass that the assailants raided the village with the aid of men in military uniforms of the Nigerian Army.

Many of the victims were members of a single family surnamed Danboyi.

Nigerian Army involved with Muslims in slaughter of Christians

Muslim extremists with the alleged help of Nigerian army personnel killed 24 Christians this month in central Nigeria’s Plateau state, area sources said.

The attacks started Aug. 11 in Ratsa Foron village, where assaults that day and on Aug. 15 left six Christians dead; also on Aug. 15 in Heipang village, Muslim extremists killed nine members of one Christian family along with another Christian, the sources said.

“They were in army uniform. I even know some of them; they came along with the Muslims to attack us,” said a tearful Nnaji John, who lost her family in the attack. “I can swear to God Almighty that the attack was carried out with the support of the soldiers; I saw them.”
