The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) was started by the Seventh-day Adventist Church as a way to follow Christ’s example of serving and caring for those in need. Put simply, ADRA improves the lives of people around the world. The agency searches out deprivation, social injustice, and need—then works to eliminate them.
Brief History In May of 1950, approximately 100 pastors and missionaries were led of God to begin a new fundamental, missionary, Baptist movement that would emphasize a worldwide church planting ministry. A simple fellowship of pastors was formed. In the years that have passed since those early days, it has grown dramatically; HOWEVER, it has never deviated from the purpose for which it was founded; to train, equip and support people for the ministry of establishing local Baptist churches around the world. Today, those original 100 have grown into the largest independent Baptist Missionary organization in the world.
The mission of Christian Associates is to establish churches who follow Jesus in transforming their world: We are called to be his missional followers. Thus, by God’s grace and the Holy Spirit’s empowerment, we want to foster a great movement that has a tireless passion to plant the Gospel and invite others into a relationship with Jesus and join us in his mission to the world.
DAI’s basic approach is to listen first, research the real needs of leaders, then design tools that respond to those needs effectively and begin putting in place an indigenous distribution system to enable leaders to access those tools. Every course DAI has written came about this way, including the popular Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership (MAOL) program that currently has over 1,000 students enrolled. Local Christian leaders grow in their integrity and effectiveness through ongoing training, mentoring, consulting and access to critical resources. DAI’s programs continue to grow and evolve as new needs are identified or needs change.

Pray for a reversal of the trend toward secularization and a permissive society. Pray for a national awakening and the re-evangelization of Sweden. Pray that the Church of Sweden might be shaken out of error and become a source of life in the Spirit. Pray that a new surge of life and vision may galvanize discouraged saints and stimulate faith that God can give growth in Sweden. Pray that congregations may also become more relevant and effective. Pray for courage to witness in a society where promoting absolutes is labeled intolerance. Pray for Bible-centered theological training. Pray for a quickening of a missions vision among young people for short-term and, even more, for long-term work. Pray for the notable work of the Institute of Bible Translation in Stockholm with the vision to provide a translation of the NT in every non-Slavic language. Pray for the calling of workers to minister to Muslim immigrants and for the provision of the outreach tools needed. Pray for effective outreach to young people, the Saami people, rural and urban areas, the Chinese, and other refugees. (Source: Operation World 2001)
